Skaraborg's cultural expressions in crafts and handicrafts

The project aims to identify Skaraborg's historically cultural expressions in crafts and handicrafts. This is to then examine marketable products and spread the expression in the local retail, for example souvenir and museum shops in Skaraborg.

About the project

The purpose of the project is to strengthen the Skaraborg identity and spread knowledge about the Skaraborg expression primarily in crafts to residents and visitors in Skaraborg. The project seeks to find answers to: What Skaraborg historically cultural objects and expressions exist in crafts and handicrafts? What marketable products with Skaraborg expression could be developed, distributed, and sold? What handicraft objects that are/have been symbols for all or parts of Skaraborg could be reintroduced into production for sale?

The project hopes to strengthen the Skaraborg identity, spread the historically cultural expression of the region to preserve it for future generations and create awareness around the Skaraborg, both among residents and visitors.

Skaraborg's cultural expressions in crafts and handicrafts

The background to the project arose when I was in the museum shop at the Zorn Museum in Mora and looked at the Mora blanket, inspired by the Mora costume. It was then that it struck me: If I can stand in a shop in Dalarna and
want to buy a blanket with Dalarna motifs, or mugs with kurbits, then maybe someone can stand in a shop in Skaraborg and want to buy a tray with patterns from Västgötaskrin, or a blanket inspired by Gubbatäcken from Kålland.”
