Distribution and market channels for local beekeeping

The pre-study will investigate how beekeepers in Västra Götaland can develop their beekeeping and sell their by-products and honey at a good price per kilo and find a larger market than what an individual beekeeper can manage.

About the project

Many beekeepers have historically sold parts of their harvests to Swedish buyers. However, in 2022 there were hardly any buyers of Swedish honey left, which has meant that many beekeepers have difficulty reaching the market. Buyers in Sweden have instead focused on purchasing foreign honey and started beekeeping outside Sweden to achieve higher margins. Thus, the supply of foreign honey, often from outside the EU, has become a significant threat to the Swedish diversity.

The project aims to provide the market with different varieties and flavors of nature's own health product, pure honey. The project starts in the form of a pre-study where they want to explore new markets and distribution channels for honey and by-products for locally produced honey within Skaraborg under the brand Västgötahonung.
