From homebrewing to microbrewery

With roots in Mariestad's brewing history and a forward-looking perspective, Halta Gåsen takes the step from homebrewing to a local microbrewery.

About the project

Halta Gåsen Brewery is a local initiative in Mariestad that aims to take the step from small-scale homebrewing to a sustainable and locally anchored microbrewery in Northern Skaraborg. Through the project, better production opportunities are created, new beer varieties with a clear connection to the place are developed, and stronger collaborations with local restaurants and producers are built.

The background is a growing demand for locally produced beer in the area. Already today, the association delivers on a small scale to restaurants in Mariestad – and the interest is increasing. With the Leader support, the business can grow in a structured manner, focusing on quality, sustainability, and local identity.

The project includes investment in brewing equipment, test brews of new products, and joint product development together with local actors. It is also about creating new meetings around beer – through tastings, collaborations, and stories that connect to the village and its history.

In the long run, the project contributes to more local collaborations, increased employment, and a richer selection of locally produced food and drink in Skaraborg. At the same time, a model is created for how voluntary engagement can grow into sustainable business development in rural areas.
